Artist Statement Conceived as a dramatic yet restrained vision of the Crucifixion, Tetelestai draws on the heightened expressiveness of Baroque religious imagery while deliberately withholding its most explicit language of suffering. The darkened sky, the dove and the suspended stillness of the scene are intended to shift the emphasis away from the physical torments of the Passion toward mourning, rupture and passage — the sense of a world momentarily brought to a threshold. While seeking to temper the Baroque impulse through symbolic language and visual restraint, Tetelestai enters into dialogue with earlier Renaissance and pre-Renaissance traditions, as well as with a more modern allegorical sensibility. Still, rather than fixing the scene within a single theological reading, it seeks to preserve a degree of ambiguity: between death and fulfilment, historical violence and spiritual transformation, desolation and the intimation of transcendence.
